COMPLINE w/ St. Cecilia

  • For Night Prayer, let us contemplating the memory of a beloved child of God, St. Cecilia, who suffered for love of Jesus Christ and was praised as “the most perfect model of the Christian woman because of her virginity and her martyrdom”. 2

St. Cecilia’s praise for God despite the torture she underwent makes her worthy of the title of one of the most venerated martyrs in Christendom.

Here is a rendition of her story as told by St. John Bosco.

“THE ART OF CONVERSATION”

HOW CAN MUSIC BRING US TOGETHER?

How can we communicate our joy with others?

As we recall the power of music as we remember St. Cecilia, and pray for her intercession in learning to praise God with her zeal, we might rediscover how music brings people together.

At Christmas, this is no exception.

At Christmas, it is easy for screens to over take quality time, whether it be people on devices or the passive watching of a screen without really getting to connect with people we haven’t seen in a long time.

In his book, “The Secret of Joy”, Padre Nuno responds to the question:

"Why is joy communicable?"

"It is because we are not alone. We are with each other. Joy only exists in relationship with others. Sometimes, some people sense that they are lacking in joy, and that is happening to us more and more these days. This is connected with a closed individualism, with that state of remoteness or severance of relationship with others, void of communication. If it is said that others appear not to have joy, it is because those who lack it are not communicating, whereas joy is always communicative, for I cannot keep it only for myself.

Accordingly, the source of my joy is the attitude of being faithful, and the basis of this joy is my relation to others and to matters entrusted to me; that is, to recognise what is willed precisely for me, what was given to me to do as a gift from God. But there is always a need for someone, a person to help me realise my joy. I can never experience joy on my own. And in life, one scarcely finds anyone happy who is merely alone with himself."

DAY 2 of 33 FOCUS

For Day 2 of this 33-day Christmas Consecration journey, Fr. David Michael and Padre Nuno invite us to consider the art of communication — and ask how each of us can we better communicate our joy to others in the coming weeks.

How can we bring joy to others in serendipitous conversations?

How can we show our joy:

  • through a smile,

  • a gesture of charity,

  • a handshake, or a hug,3

  • or genuine interest in taking time to be with someone, to talk about their interests, whether it be their interest in music or how they are doing spiritually?

How can we be curious in a way that lifts people up and are there ways we can improve that moment when we greet those who we haven’t seen in a long time, or those who feel distant from us, unable to communicate their own joy, or perhaps struggling to find joy in their lives?

How can we find ways to create meaningful exchanges to other beloved sons and daughters of God?

We invite you to watch Fr. David Michael’s one-minute ice-breaker and read aloud Padre Nuno’s reflections for Day 2 as you prepare for Night Prayer and pray the Rosary as outlined below.

Ask the Blessed Mother to inspire in your life new pathways that will help you to connect with others in even more meaningful ways this Christmas, especially those who feel isolated, alone, marginalized, abandoned, or misunderstood. What can you do together to increase joy?

When released, Billboard named this song #16 on the “Top 200”. This YouTube clip of Tulsa native entitled “I Like You” was written by the Independent artist, Ben Rector, here cited by Fr. David Michael Moses as he explores the essential philosophical question that might be a great ice breaker for RCIA groups: “What is Life” (all about)?

2

OPTIONAL PRAYER: Lord of Mercy, be close to those who call upon you. With Saint Cecilia to help us, hear and answer our prayers as we offer to You this daily Rosary and Psalm, so as to praise you and prepare our hearts for Your Sacred Heart this Advent.

Help us in this first part of the Consecration Journey to contemplate the miracle of your birth with the vision of your Mother, and our mother, Mary, and with St. Joseph her most chaste spouse. Like them, we wish to invite you into our hearts each day with the hope born for those who adore you and accept you as our Lord and King, the Prince of Peace.”

PREGHIERA ALL’ANGELO CUSTODE by PADRE PIO:
