Day 5/33 - Mystagogue & "Meu Deus" Live Record Reboot w/ Fr. Anthony Gramlich as we explore the role of the Angel of Portugal in the Rosary and Adoration

Pe Nuno introduces Angel's catechesis in 5th day of Christmas Consecration Journey. Join this growing prayer initiative to deepen the "Why" behind our prayers. (2nd Edition)

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS CHRISTMAS?

Dear friends in Christ.

Today’s “Christmas Consecration Journey” post returns to the why of the “MEU DEUS”. In today’s 1st Edition video, Padre Nuno recites for us the "Meu Deus", taught by the Mystagogue who like Our Lady brings to the children a “Doxological Spirituality" — the Angel teaches the children how to give God right praise.1

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the historical day -- April 25th, 1974, known as the Carnation Revolution and ending an almost 50 year dictatorship in Portugal. While this day came and went in Portugal, the memory of this peaceful surrender was in large part brought about by the silent efforts of the five women in Guimaraes who worked in the background to help bring about a secret yet powerful Rosary prayer effort that would spread from house to house in response to Our Lady’s request for 1 million families to pray the Rosary for an end to the dictatorship.

Before that time, however, Fr. Anthony Gramlich, MIC notes in the video above, God must intervene when required and in 1916, the absence of access to Eucharistic Adoration brought about the 1916 apparitions of the Angel of Portugal which today's video remembers as we explore the "why" of the various prayers of the Rosary in the effort to help others understand the significance of these prayers and thus increase their capacity to pray with the heart.

So often, prayer of the Rosary can seem redundant; however, as we have learned through the passage of almost 3 years of time, the Rosary can become one's favorite prayer when we take the time to investigate the meaning of the words -- and to utter them with a desire to approach the meaning with renewed understanding each time they are recited.

We invite you to watch the video to learn more from this introductory note on the first prayer in the Rosary after we sign ourselves with the cross.

A PILGRIMAGE TO VALINHOS, PORTUGAL

A trip to the Chapel of the Apparitions at the end of March in Portugal, provides a unique opportunity to join the annual pilgrimage to Valinhos. This walk invites pilgrims to grasp the history of the Angel of Portugal and the mission given to teach the prayer of the Meu Deus to the three children -- not unlike St. Michael's appearance in Gargano, Italy.

Only 5 KM from where Our Lady would appear in the Cova da Iria in the spot where the Chapel of the Apparitions now stands, is this place of daily prayer of the Rosary and the Holy Mass, and confession 365 Days a year. In many ways, the Marian Shrines of the world which are visited by millions are also important spaces of spiritual renewal and spiritual centres causing pilgrims to approach Heaven with hearts open to the grace God wishes to bestow on those who make the journey.

Over the next posts, we'll think about this camino of prayer as we explore the prayers of the Rosary. For tonight's Compline, try listening to the words of the Meu Deus prayer as the children would have learned them. We are grateful for the help of two Spiritual Directors of the Rosary Hour Podcast for Season 3.

First, Fr. Nuno Rocha, pastor entering 27 years of service in Portugal, teaches the Meu Deus with Fr. David Michael Moses. followed by a brief discussion by Fr. Anthony Gramlich who explores "Why God intervenes into human history?"

READING: “1 Thessalonians 5:9-10”

God has destined us for acquiring salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us, that all of us, whether awake or asleep, together might live with him.

RESPONSORY

Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.
— Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.

You have redeemed us, Lord God of truth.
— I commend my spirit.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
— Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.

GOSPEL CANTICLE

Antiphon: Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace.

Canticle of Simeon (Luke 2:29-32)

Christ is the light of the nations and the glory of Israel

Lord, + now you let your servant go in peace; *
your word has been fulfilled:

my own eyes have seen the salvation *
which you have prepared in the sight of every people:

a light to reveal you to the nations *
and the glory of your people Israel.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Ant. Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace.

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Let us pray.

Lord,
we have celebrated today
the mystery of the rising of Christ to new life.
May we now rest in your peace,
safe from all that could harm us,
and rise again refreshed and joyful,
to praise you throughout another day.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
— Amen.

BLESSING

May the all-powerful Lord
grant us a restful night
and a peaceful death.
— Amen.

Antiphon or song in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,
our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs
mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this exile
show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.

I walk to Loca do Cabeço. I prepare myself interiorly to reach this place of intimacy, the heart of Valinhos, where the Angel first appeared to the three children to teach them the way of peace, the way of the heart to the very heart of God Himself, through prayer.

Later, the Angel appeared there a third time, giving them Communion with the Body and Blood of Jesus.

I take a few minutes of deep silence. I contemplate the intimacy of this place and, like the Little Shepherds, I allow God to lead me to unite my heart to his.

I am invited to give him the center of my life, to adore him with all the creation and allow the desire to believe, to adore, to hope and to love to grow in me ever more.

I extend my heart and my prayer to all those I know and to all humanity, asking God to enfold them too in his infinite love.

I can do so using the words that the Angel himself taught the Little Shepherds:

My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You. I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You.

I am now heading for Aljustrel, to Lucia’s house. On the way, I stop for a moment at the Monument of Valinhos. It marks the fourth apparition of Our Lady to the Little Shepherds (19 August), a surprising encounter which strengthened the love, faith and hope of the three children in their fidelity to God, who made himself present through Mary. I entrust to Mary my journey of faith, hope and love and I ask her to accompany me and strengthen m
