Adonái was one of the titles used when speaking of or to God in the Old Testament,
“There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed.” (Exodus 3.2)
Adonái led the Chosen People out of captivity in Egypt “by the mighty arm of his power” and gave them His law on Mount Sinai.
Similarly Christ, the Lord led us out of our captivity to Satan by dying “with outstretched arms” on the Cross of Calvary; and He has given us His law of love. We beg Him to come at Christmastime as we study the greater advent antiphons to redeem us completely from the slavery to sin; and to grant us the grace to live more fully in obedience to His law.
